COULD YOU HELP A YOUNG PERSON FIND THEIR FUTURE

By offering a work experience placement to a young person you give them the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge and enhance your business and staff team at the same time.

Working with inspiring Milton Keynes based young people

Milton Keynes Christian Foundation is a local charity working with young people not in education, training or employment through social enterprise.

We work with young people from all faiths and none. The goal for each young person, while they are working on one of our social enterprises, is to take steps towards employment.

They build their self-confidence, life skills and the foundation blocks for being in the work place. The next phase for them is to continue this learning journey in an external working environment – while still being supported by us. Our young people have often had to work even harder than most to take each step towards a more hopeful future, so they value every opportunity given to them even more.

Who could you work with?

Our young people fall into two categories;

Foundation Learning is for young people aged between 16-19 years old who have already worked and studied with us for a year, gaining work experience on one of our social enterprises. This means we can ensure the young people are ready for an external work experience placement. We aim for the placement to last from between 6 weeks to 6 months from between 1 – 3 days a week.

Supported Internship is the programme for young people aged 16-24 years old with additional learning needs. These young people are looking to enter employment through extended work experience placements which we hope could lead to a job interview at the end of the placement. We aim for these placements to last from 6 months to a year from between 1 – 3 days a week.

Benefits of taking on a work experience placement:

  • The knowledge you are helping a young people to grow and learn
  • Train future employees with the skills and knowledge you need
  • Extra staff support for your business
  • Workforce diversity
  • Support for your managers and staff around working with people with additional needs
  • No paperwork! Other than our health and safety questionnaire everything else is handled by our work

Ed has been part of Milton Keynes Play Association (MKPA) for a year now doing amazing work in our scrap store on his work placement 1 day a week. He has now secured a permanent position with us.

Ed is the second trainee we’ve placed at MKPA and he describes his experiences there so positively. He is developing his skills and making great progress. His favourite thing to do is sort through donations with his manager. Ed will be focusing on developing his customer service skills over the next few months.
