Cycle Saviours – Cycle Mechanic/Trainer

Job type: Full time 37.5 hrs a week (5 days a week including occasional evenings and weekends)
Salary £17,500 pa

Cycle Saviours is an exciting social enterprise, staffed by amazing teams of young people outside education and employment. We have a mission to save and renovate unwanted bikes, save the planet and get more people on their bikes. We are currently building on our success with sales and repairs by expanding our community, education and business engagement activities, encouraging more people to get into cycling.>

You will be an enterprising, environmentally committed, cycling enthusiast with high level cycle mechanic skills who is keen to share those skills with young people and others in our community.

For this post you will need an enhanced DBS check.

The purpose of this post is to work with and train young people on our pre-apprenticeship programme to:

  • Source, refurbish and sell unwanted bikes and bike spares and repair and service customer bikes
  • Develop community activities that promote access to cycling
  • Engage young trainees in the work of the enterprise

Key requirements

Ideally you will:

  • Be an enterprising cycling enthusiast with good cycle maintenance skills
  • Ideally hold a cycle maintenance qualification
  • Have an ability to, and experience of, working with young people
  • A passion for cycling and the environment
  • Have strong administrative skills
  • Qualifications at level 2 or above in English and Maths
  • Strong team work skills and an ability to work constructively with others
  • A commitment to the completion of work and to the achievement of targets
  • Hold a current driving license and be able to drive a small van

Early Years Practitioner – Childcare pathways

Job type: Full time 37.5 hrs a week (Possible job share)
Salary £17,500 pa pro rata where part-time

The Foundation Childcare Pathways enterprise is responsible for the development and delivery of:

  • Childcare: Providing a range of childcare activities that encourage children’s development and address their needs, connecting these where possible to our sustainability agenda. Our under-fives provision includes crèches, Forest School, stay-and-play sessions, holiday clubs and other events for school age children.
  • Training: Providing diverse childcare and parenting training for trainees and other clients.

For this post you will need an enhanced DBS check.

This purpose of this post is to provide:

  • Run day nurseries, crèches, parent and tots groups, forest school activities and school age holiday schemes
  • Work with and train young people to develop the range of skills needed to work in Early Years setting and holiday clubs.

Key requirements:

  • a childcare qualification at NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • a passion for working with children, parents and families
  • ability to, and experience of running crèches for children and establishing strong partnerships with parents
  • experience of working with school age children
  • an enthusiasm for supporting children to engage with and learn from the natural world
  • experience of Forest School
  • experience of working with, supporting and training young people to achieve, particularly those who have been disengaged or who are disadvantaged, and a belief in their value and their potential
  • knowledge and ability to implement of safeguarding procedures in an Early Years setting
  • knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and requirements set out by Ofsted relevant to Early Years provision

Growing People: P/T Temporary Horticultural Social Enterprise Worker

Job type: Part time 22.5 hrs a week, 3 month contract
Salary £17,500 pa pro rata

Growing People is our urban horticultural enterprise that works with young people to explore sustainable, local community alternatives to growing food based on the Urb Farm in Wolverton. It does this by:

  • Growing seasonal fruit and vegetables, using environmentally sensitive techniques, to sell within our local community
  • Growing people, with a focus on supporting young people (trainees aged 15-24) towards employment, through horticultural training

For this post you will need an enhanced DBS check.

This purpose of this post is to work with the Growing People team:

  • Running our market garden, a grassroots community enterprise showcasing local food growing and healthy eating in an urban environment
  • This is a hands-on role growing fruit and vegetables and caring for our small chicken flock on our Urban Farm alongside trainees, some with challenging behaviours.

Key requirements:

Knowledge and practical experience of Horticulture especially vegetables and fruit growing
A horticulture qualification (RHS Level 2 or equivalent) or relevant skills
Experience of working with young people with Special Educational Needs and challenging behaviour
Creative and good at problem solving
Strong team work skills
Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

You will have:

  • Knowledge and practical experience of Horticulture especially vegetables and fruit growing
  • A horticulture qualification (RHS Level 2 or equivalent) or relevant skills
  • Experience of working with young people with Special Educational Needs and challenging behaviour
  • Creative and good at problem solving
  • Strong team work skills
  • Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

Foundation Training: P/T Assessor Employability Skills

Job type: Part time 20 hrs a week, term time
Salary £20,000-£21,000 pa pro rata

Foundation Training provides innovative learning opportunities within social enterprises for young people struggling with traditional approaches to teaching and learning. We use our social enterprises as learning environments helping young people to:

  • build their confidence and self esteem
  • develop vocational, employability, social and life skills
  • gain vocational and employability qualifications
  • grow skills and achieve qualifications in maths and English
  • identify the next steps towards more independent living

For this post you will need an enhanced DBS check.

This purpose of this post is to:

  • To support the assessment and accreditation of the skills acquired by trainees, as far as possible through the day-to-day activities of our social enterprises
  • With enterprise staff to develop context specific materials that can be used within our social enterprises to support this accreditation

Key requirements:

Ideally you will have:

  • Ability to work with young people who have not been successful through traditional educational pathways
  • An assessors qualification (D32 / A1 / CAVA / TAQA)
  • Creative in identifying opportunities to develop learning and accreditation
  • Maths and English to at least L2
  • Awareness of Safeguarding expectations
  • Good administrative skills
  • An ability to be flexible and be good at working under pressure
  • Strong team player
  • Positive, creative and solution focused
