We are thrilled to be selling our freshly harvested dried dye material; grown at our dye garden at the Urb Farm in Wolverton. Each dye plant has been sown from seed, potted on and harvested by our staff and trainees. Dyers Chamomile produces a warm summer yellow.
We are selling our Dyers Chamomile in 25g, 50g and 100g weight. We will also include a leaflet introducing you to natural dyeing in your order.
25g = £3
50g = £6
100g = £12
As a guide, 25g of Dyers Chamomile will dye equal weight of fabric. The more Dyers Chamomile you use, the stronger the dye colour. 1m squared of mordanted fabric generally weighs between 150-200g. We also sell mordanted fabric (ready for dyeing) on our website.
For a fully immersed dye result, we recommend popping your dyers chamomile into a muslin bag, or straight into a saucepan, covering with water and simmering gently for an hour. Sieve, then immerse your (pre-soaked) mordanted fabric into the sieved dye vat and simmer gently for another hour. Leave to air dry and cure for a day or two before rinsing. If you use a muslin bag there is no need to sieve your saucepan before adding your (pre-soaked) mordanted fabric.
For a patterned dye result, you can simply sprinkle the crumbled dye material over damp mordanted fabric (like confetti), roll the fabric up like a sausage and steam it for an hour. This is called bundle dyeing. 25g of dye material will provide enough to experiment with a bundle dye.
Created slowly with our gorgeous planet in mind.
All of our dyes are vegan and natural.
